Community Supported Agriculture
Over the last 20 years, Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) has become a popular way for consumers to buy local, seasonal food directly from a farmer.
In our pilot program, Melissa's Farm offers a mix of 6 to 10 types of vegetables, herbs, and fruits, per week. We also buy or barter produce from other organic or natural farms in order to diversity and offer “value added” products such as cheese, various types of nuts, honey and bread. Consumers interested in purchasing a basket can do so for $100 for four weeks (one basket each week) or $28 for individual weeks.
We are not a supermarket! The vegetables that you find each week in your basket are what we are harvesting at that time. You are not able to pick and choose as in a market. Part of the commitment is to learn to eat what is in season here in our local area. You will find you become more flexible and adventurous with your cooking and eating habits. Each crop has a preference for certain growing conditions.
There will always be greens-for salads, cooking or both, herbs and some value added products. We will provide an “extras” box where you can swap one or two items that may be more to your liking.
To Order Orders must be placed the Friday before each pick-up day (Wednesdays). At this time, our current capacity is 30 baskets each week. Baskets are reserved on a first come, first served basis. We do not have a per person limit. You can call (210) 367-0325 or order above.
Pick Up To ensure you receive the freshest, high-quality produce, we harvest the morning of your designated pick-up day (every Wednesday). Pick up is available from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Leon Springs Presbyterian Church in Leon Springs, TX.
